Care Watch Toronto's Self-Advocacy Handbook

and an advocacy handbook, which will define advocacy and show how it can be used to empower women

While our project focusing on full time caregiving, has been very successful allowing women to discuss their experiences, talk about their needs and suggest ways to improve the quality of their lives, we believe that it is vitally important now to offer some concrete help.  We hope the handbook will provide that help and will give caregivers and other women an important resource to assist their own efforts to obtain the best care for themselves and their families.

The self-advocacy handbook will be used in proposed workshops throughout 2002 and will be available to individuals in April, 2002.

A Reminder

from Human Resources Development Canada

If you are currently receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), you must renew your benefit every year. The amount of your GIS benefit is based on your annual income, or the combined annual income of you and your spouse or common-law partner. Changes to your income will affect your eligibility; therefore,
you must reapply for the supplement each year.

Most beneficiaries can automatically renew their supplement simply by filing their income tax return by April 30. If we need more information, we will send you an application form, which you must complete and return as soon as possible.
